On Friday 22nd June we dressed in our Laois colours to show support for our Laois Team in the Leinster football final. It was a busy day as we also raised our second green flag with a little help from local heroes Jack Lowry and Ben Conroy. It was tinged with a little sadness as we bid farewell to our 2018 6th class graduates. We wish them every success and they move to secondary school.

The 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes visited Cork on Thursday 21st June. We travelled to Spike Island and Fota Wildlife Park. Junior Infants, Senior Infants, First and Second classes had fun in Lullymore Park on Monday 25th June. As an appreciation of our school's efforts in the food campaign at Christmas, our continued support of the Peace Poster Competition and our status as a rural school, our school was selected to receive a donation from the local Lion's Club today. We are very grateful. On Wednesday next 1st to 6th class will perform at a concert in The Heritage Hotel, Killenard. They rehearsed in front of a very important audience today- The Junior and Senior Infants. We had singing from 1st to 3rd class, ukulele from 4th to 6th and even a solo by Ryan, accompanied by Tommy and Raymond. Well done and good luck to all the boys and girls and of course their tutor Lorna on Wednesday. The school enjoyed the annual Sports Day on Thurs 14th June. Great fun was had by all. The day began with a wake up, shake up, lead by Ms Dollard. Next, teams devised by Ms Phelan, enjoyed an active quiz followed by team building jig-saw making. Shortly afterwards the teams took part in various activities at stations supervised by Mr Stapelton, Ms Dollard, Ms Phelan and Ms Doran. After break the traditional races took place- egg and spoon, sack race, three-legged race. We had great fun with the clothes race, dressing up our sixth class team leaders. Finally, in the afternoon we took to the classrooms for some dance activities before finishing the day with the presentation of swimming certificates. Thank you to Ms Phelan for organising the event, the teachers for their time and of course the children whose enthusiasm and good behaviour ensured a fantastic time was had by all. |
