Green Flag Award
Paddock National School was proud and honored to receive its first green flag in the 2014/15 academic year. This flag was awarded in the category of LITTER AND WASTE in association with An Taisce. This initiative was spear headed by the green school's coordinator, Ms Alison Phelan and a democratically elected green school's committee. Each child in the school worked tirelessly to reduce, reuse and recycle. A slogan competition led to our school motto of "Anything but recycling is a rubbish idea." Many events took place over the course of a two year campaign. There was a litter picking rota in place each lunch break, specially planned clean-up green days, a recycling drive of small electrical appliances, beginning composting and the planting of flowers and trees on school grounds. The children received visits from special guests to teach us more about recycling. We were very pleased to welcome Mr Liam O Neill in the final term and he helped us to proudly raise our flag. Here's looking forward to working on attaining our second green flag, the ENERGY flag......
