On Monday, 19th February, the boys and girls welcomed a special visitor- Enda Reilly. Enda is a singer- songwriter with a keen interest in environmental issues. Enda congratulated us on the great work thus far in our green journey and encouraged us to carry on. Enda spoke to us about energy conservation, harmful carbon dioxide emissions from current forms of energy-oil, gas, solid fuel etc and the need to use more renewable energy sources such as the wind and tidal energy. Enda performed a few of his songs which focus on caring for our environment. The children happily sang along. Many thanks Enda.

The Green School Committee hosted a "Green Day" on Wed 14th Feb. We were very conscious not to waste energy. We ensured all lights were turned off when not needed, doors were kept closed to keep heat in, only essential photocopying was carried out, etc. Students were encouraged to carry on this mindfulness of energy wastage at home. Students dressed in green to commemorate the day. Each student worked on a piece of art work at home, made from recycled materials. We proudly displayed these to each other on Wednesday. They remain in school for viewing in our Halla. Well done to all involved. |
