Well done Fionnan. We are all very proud of you.
Fionnan kindly brought us in the "Golden Basketball". This is an award given out weekly to players in the basketball club he is a member of for good behaviour and sportsmanship. The "Golden Basketball" is kept for one week before being awarded to another player.
Well done Fionnan. We are all very proud of you.

Well done to all our students who took part in the 10@10 on the 10th February at 10 o'clock. All classes followed the 10 minutes of activity from the Operation Transformation website. Keep active everyone Past pupil and Camogie Soaring Star Award winner, Aisling Burke, paid the school a visit last Friday, 3rd February. She showed us her award and kindly signed some hurleys for her fans here at Paddock N.S. We are all so proud of Aisling's achievements. To view some photographs of the day please visit our "Latest News and Events" page.
Don't forget, tomorrow, 10th February we will be active for 10 @ 10 in association with Operation Transformation. There is still time to practice the routine. Just click the button in previous post. Keep fit everyone. Paddock N.S will be taking part in the Operation Transformation 10 at 10 2017. This will involve the whole school participating in a 10 minute activity at 10 o'clock on February 10th 2017. Why not practice before then......
Just click on the button below. Stay Active Everyone. Apologies for the lack of up-dates. A lot has been happening in our pursuit of an Active Flag in Paddock National School. Active Week Active week, held in June, was a great success and is set to become an annual event here in Paddock N.S. Each day began with a wake-up, shake-up session. This involved the whole school moving, squatting, lunging, dancing and jumping around in a five minute activity to raise the heart rates and set us up for the day. On Monday our active activity was our final tennis session with Kieran. Each class had 6 sessions in total. These were great fun and hopefully we may have inspired some future tennis champions. On Tuesday Ms Doran organised an active trail for us to make use of our map reading and orienteering skills. Teams were a mixture from all classes and clues were colour coded for different levels. On Wednesday Kilkenny Star Hurler Kieran Joyce visited our school. This was in conjunction with an AIB initiative participated in by the Senior Room. Kieran was very informative, letting our future GAA stars know the kind of dedication which is needed for success. Thursday was our annual sports day. Events included sprints, three-legged races, sack races, the wheelbarrow race, dress-up derby and our rotating activity stations. As always this was a highlight in our school year and many thanks to Ms Phelan for organising such a great day. Finally, on Friday we began the day with Funky Feet Friday. Staff, children and parents were invited to walk to school from the local Slieve Bloom GAA pitch. This is approximately a 2km walk. Pictures in a previous post. That afternoon we were delighted to welcome Catherine Phelan, one of our parents, who kindly gave each classroom a taster session of Kettlebells. Active week concluded with the awarding of swimming certificates. Witch's Walk 2016 In order to celebrate Halloween in an active way we decided to hold a witch's walk from the local GAA pitch to the school on the morning of the Halloween holidays. This was organised by our Parents Council. Children, parents and staff were all invited to join in getting dressed-up and walking the 2km to school. We hope we didn't scare too many motorists. Slieve Bloom Champions Visit Our SchoolOur local hurling team, Slieve Bloom, are the Laois Junior Championship and League champions. Great excitement flowed through the locality as 1983 (over 30 yrs ago) was the last time the club contested the final. The team took time out of their celebrations to visit the school. Paddock NS was well represented with past pupils on the panel. Camogie HerosMembers from the Laois Junior Camogie Team came to visit our school in September 2016. They had recently won the long sought after Junior All Ireland title which took place in Croke Park that month. Past pupil Aisling Burke was among the camogie stars. Last Friday, the 24th of June, our school took part in a Funky Feet Friday! Pupils, parents and teachers were asked to park at the local pitch and walk to school! Even though the weather was quite unsettled, nothing deterred our school from the challenge. It was a big success and well done to all involved! The boys and girls of Paddock N.S took part in Global Running Day, yesterday, 1st June 2016. This also marked the beginning of our Mountrath to Dublin challenge, whereby the children will endeavour to collectively walk 225km in the month of June. This equates to 1650 laps of our school field. Each child must walk, jog or run at least 22 laps each over the next few weeks. Good luck everyone.
Now that it is May, the weather is improving and the yard is drier, Hop Scotch has been introduced. This is a traditional game to be enjoyed by all. Keep active everyone.
We were delighted to welcome Paul from the Irish Rugby Association for a six week block of coaching for all classes. These were very enjoyable sessions for all involved. In the run up to our Easter holidays, all the children from 1st to 6th class participated in a lunch time bench ball league run by Ms Doran and Ms Dollard. This was great fun and helped us keep active at lunchtime with a new game to enjoy. The final was held on the second last day of term and the whole school watched and cheered with delight. A presentation to both the runner up and winning teams was held on the last day, again to the cheers of the whole school. Well done to all involved. Stay active everyone. |
